Minister for Youth and Sports Purusottam Poudel, National Sports Council member-secretary Yuvaraj Lama, Cricket Association of Nepal representatives and Nepali fans received the legendary heroes at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA).
The team then took a quick city tour from the airport with a band and fanfare, covering Gaushala- Old Baneshwor- Maitidevi- Dillibajar- Putalisadak Bagbajar- Rantapark- Jamal- Durbar Marg, heading towards their hotel in Naxal.
Although Nepal has failed to qualify for the next round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2014, its performance has been applauded in the international cricket arena. Of the three games, Nepal defeated Hong Kong by 80 runs and Afghanistan by 9 runs. Nepal lost to host Bangladesh by eight wickets despite a strong performance.
Nepals fate for the next round of World Cup went in vain as Hong Kong could not beat Bangladesh within 13.1 overs. Bangladesh has advanced to the next round despite losing to Hong Kong by two wickets on run rate basis against Nepal.
Nepals performance has been noted and appreciation is pouring in from international cricketers and sports analysts. Various business houses have already announced cash awards for the team to honour their performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2014.
Meanwhile, Minister Poudel has announced to honour the victorious team with cash prize of Rs 500,000 each amidst an interaction in the capital today.
Poudel said the government has been preparing for the same. However, the final decision would be taken after Finance Minister Ram Saran Mahat returns home from Brussels, he added.
