Gaighat (Udaypur), July 17: Around 37 per cent population in Udaypur district has been suffering from different diseases every year due to consumption of water of open well. An annual statistics presented recently by the District Health Office, Udaypur, states that 37 per cent population out of the total population of the district are found suffering from different diseases including diarrhoea, typhoid and jaundice due to the use of water of open well.

Senior doctor at the District Hospital, Udaypur, Chuman Lal Das, said that mostly people are found suffering from cholera, diarrhoea and typhoid due to the use of contaminated water of open well. Dr Das said that around 10,000 people suffering from different diseases had visited the hospital this year alone. Similarly, not only at the District Hospital, number of patients visiting other local hospitals, health posts and private clinics has also increased, according to the hospital source.
