Kathmandu, July 11: With almost over of Asar month, the peak season for paddy transplantation across the country, only 30 percent of paddy transplantation was completed in the southern belt of Kathmandu district. Weaker monsoon has resulted in low paddy transplantation this year though the farmers used to complete as high as 80 percent job of paddy transplantation during the second week of July in the yesteryears.
Farmers in the region rely on rainfall for paddy sapling plantation in almost 50 percent land.Chief of Agricultural Services Center, Dakshanikali, Raghunath Khadka said that chances are high for barren lands this year due to lack of sufficient rainfall. "Paddy transplantation is completed only in 30 percent land and the farmers are waiting for heavy rainfall," he added. Farmer Shyam Basnet warned that most of the land plots could remain barren this year if they were not able to complete the paddy transplantation within few days.
