Kathmandu, July 2: Minister for Information and Communications Dr Minendra Rijal has said implementation of Right to Information (RTI) calls for increased responsibility. Inaugurating a two-day advanced training on RTI organised by the National Information Commission here today, Minister Rijal said the more the people make best use of RTI, the more the bodies concerned will be responsible in service delivery. The implementation of RTI would help maintain transparency in government service delivery and protect peoples rights, he said. He expressed his hope that training would be useful for promoting RTI.
Nepal Bar Association President Harikrishna Karki has said the Interim Constitution of Nepal has guaranteed the RTI as fundamental right of the people. RTI is an important part for the institutional development of democracy, he said. President of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Dr Mahendra Bista said although Nepali society is open and transparent, information dissemination is not effective. Commission Secretary Shreeram Panta said the Commission has been working for the enforcement of RTI in the country. The culture of exchanging information would help establish good governance, maintain transparency and accountability of service providers.
