Kathmandu, July 3: Effort to draw common line among political parties supporting identity-based federalism has gone futile today.

A meeting of the political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly (CA) ended inconclusively as they could not chart out a common view on identity-based federalism.

With this, the plan to form a federal republic alliance under UCPN (Maoist) leadership and draw up a common line to that end remained unfulfilled.

After the meeting held at UCPN (Maoist) Chairpersons residence at Lazimpat, Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma shared that a taskforce has been formed to develop a common concept and the meeting of the parties would finalize the concept paper once the taskforce drafts the paper.

An alternative way to forge consensus was explored through the taskforce after the UCPN (Maoist), Madhes-based parties and Federal Socialist Party, which were supposed to join the alliance, developed differences on the issues of forms of governance and federalism. RSS
