Gaushala, July 24: Number of criminal incidents has increased in Mahottari district in the last fiscal year (2070-71 BS). A total of 353 incidents of crime had taken place in the district during one year period. A total of 353 different types of crimes including rape, suicide, murder and attempt to murder had been filed at the District Police Office (DPO), Mahottari, in the last fiscal year. As many as 25 people committed suicide by consuming poison during the period. Similarly, thirteen incidents of attempt to murder and 11 cases of murder were registered at the District Police Office. Likewise, 17 people lost their lives in road accidents in the fiscal year 2070-71 BS.

Different criminal cases during in the period are related to public crime, human trafficking, child marriage, arms and ammunition, kidnap, attempt to rape, rape among others. A total of 256 criminal cases were registered in the fiscal year 2069-70 BS. Admitting that the criminal incidents are on the rise in the district in recent time, Chief at the DPO, Superintendent of Police, Ram Prasad Shrestha, said that they were committed to lessen such incidents.
