Solukhumbu, July 24: Number of people suffering from different diseases due to consumption of contaminated water has increased at the district headquarters, Salleri. Score of patients visiting different hospitals and health posts after suffering from water-borne disease is on the rise. Health workers said that contaminated water is the main cause behind the increasing number of patients suffering from water-borne disease.

Selleri folks are found drinking contaminated water without refining for lack of a body checking the quality of drinking water. Locals of Phaplu to Dorpu are using water of different sources. Knowledgeable people said that the water of different sources is not suitable to drink as there are human settlements above the water sources and added that such water should be consumed only after refining it.

Gyan Bahadur Karki of Selleri said that they have been compelled to drink water which they themselves brought from water sources for lack of a systematic mechanism to distribute drinking water. Assistant Health Worker at the Sub-health Post, Selleri, Tirtharaj Acharya, said that we should use water only after purifying it at our own houses even if the water sources are polluted as we could suffer from communicable diseases due to contaminated water.
