Jumla, July 2: Jumla faces food grain shortage of 2,800 metric tonnes annually, the District Agricultural Development Office, Jumla stated. Senior Agricultural Development Officer Tej Narayan Gaire shared this information at a programme of interaction on the status of agriculture in the district today. Out of a total 254,381 hectares land in the district, only 39,485 is arable and even on this land agriculture production is not up to the level, he said.
The food grain deficit is met through imports from other districts. Local Development Officer Krishna Prasad Lamsal stressed on formulating a separate food security strategy for the district to address the problem and to develop the agriculture sector in a modern way. Before this, the office has developed a 10-year strategy with agriculture plan for the entire Karnali Zone with the objective of securing the food rights and food security of the people in the region.
