Ilam, July 17: The amount provided by the government to inter-caste married couple as an incentive has been distributed in Ilam district after two years. Fifteen couples, who entered into an inter-caste marriage, had filed application at the District Administration Office for the incentive amount. The Office provided the incentive amount to the couples through bank account.

Account officer at the Office, Bhishma Dahal, said that the incentive amount was provided to the couples after opening a joint bank account of the couple entered into an inter-caste marriage. As many as 10 inter-caste married couples had filed application at the office for the incentive amount in the fiscal year 2012/13 and five couples in the fiscal year 2013/14, he added.

The government had in the fiscal year 2010/11 decided to provide incentive amount to remove caste discrimination between Dalit and non-Dalit from the society. A total of 50 such couples have received the incentive amount in the district so far.
