Birgunj, July 23: With the start of monsoon, number of patients suffering from viral fever and jaundice has increased at Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital, Birgunj. Around 50 patients suffering from viral fever visit the hospital daily. According to the hospital, out of the patients who visited the hospital suspecting jaundice in the third week of July, 40 were found suffering from the disease. Medical Superintendent at the hospital, Dr Ramashankar Thakur, said that score of patients suffering from viral fever and jaundice has increased all of sudden and added that one should consult doctors and take necessary advice from them soon after developing symptoms of viral fever and jaundice. -: 2 :- Dr Thakur said that not only patients of viral fever and jaundice, number of patients suffering from diarrhoea and stomach pain, among others has also gone up at the hospital.
The hospital has 300 beds which is insufficient at a time when the number of patient suffering from different diseases is on the rise at the hospital. Patients from Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi districts as well as from different places of India also visit the hospital, it is learnt. Health workers said that the flow of patients has increased due to consumption of contaminated water and stale food during rainy season. Similarly, number of patients suffering from viral fever and jaundice has also increased at private hospitals and clinics. Specially, people from rural areas are found suffering from such diseases, said doctors.
