Kathmandu, July 22: UCPN (Maoist) and four other political parties have asked the government not to precede the anti-national power trade agreement (PTA) with India at any cost.

A meeting of the five-party working alliance committee held Tuesday concluded that the PTA that is being dealt unilaterally poses threat to sovereignty and indivisibility and such agreement would be anti-national deal, General Secretary of Revolutionary Communist Party Mani Thapa said.

Though the PTA was needed for the country, acceptance of India proposal without keeping the national interest at centre was wrong, Thapa added, "The meeting even decided for people mobilization if the deal was signed."

The meeting also passed a proposal to conduct an intensive interaction on energy and water resources and exert pressure on the government.

Likewise, the meeting has urged to consider the national interest in regard to project development agreement on Upper Karnali Hydropower Project in the near future. The meeting also decided to hold a grant discussions programme with the stakeholders about project development agreement on Upper Karnali Hydrpower Project.

Thapa said awarding the Indian project to develop the power of the cheapest project that Nepalis themselves can develop would not be reasonable and justifiable. Top leaders of UCPN (Maoist), CPN-Maoist, CPN (Maoist), Revolutionary Communist Party and CPN (Unified) were present at the meeting. RSS
